Ownership Society

September, 2009 / Julio Fine Arts Gallery, Loyola College / Baltimore, MD

In this series of ink and charcoal drawings, Beck renders houses listed on sale and foreclosure websites. Former President George W. Bush once described a vision of a future America as “an ownership society,” where “more Americans than ever will be able to open up their door where they live and say, welcome to my house, welcome to my piece of property." These charcoal and ink drawings reflect the relationship between desire and economic security.
