Charcoal on paper, from 30 x 22 inches

This series is named after Lady Bird Johnson, who worked to limit billboards through “Lady Bird’s Bill,” also known as the Highway Beautification Act of 1965. The drawings in this series use images of blank or empty billboards as their source: signs that serve as economic indicators, wires and gas canopies that point to energy dependence, cell phone towers and phone lines that indicate communication, and parking lot tree islands that hint at the sea of asphalt underneath.
